I didn't write down the year on his original ref (on paper), so I'm not entirely sure about what year I created him, but 2015 is the estimated year.

Past:
Samael was the youngest of member of his family with 4 elder siblings.
His first couple of years were quite normal, but when he reached age 3 nad it was time for him to start learning fire magic, turned out he just couldn't.
After a good amount of failed attempts his family seemed to realize he wasn't able to use fire magic.
Unfortunately for him, his family was not exactly of the most accepting sort when it came to being a part of the family and inept with magic.
At first he started to get bullied by the rest of his family, which eventually turned into straight up abuse.
None of this was known to the rest of the town they lived in, the family keeping Samael inside most of the time under the guise of him being sick. This let the family keep it's good name as they acted friendly towards others and helped teach other families fire magic.
This also meant Samael didn't grow up with almost any friends. The only person he managed to befriend was the the daughter of the shop owner across the street, who was around the same age as him.
She suspected something was going on, but couldn't do anything about it.

When Samael was around 10, a bad drought struck the area where he lived and food was becoming scarce. That's when his family decided to send him off to his father's parents which was in a different region. This was publicly of course under the guise of 'he'll have it better there', when in reality they just wanted to get rid of him.
Samael ended up travelling to his grandparents mostly by foot and by hitching rides from horse carts that were headed in the direction he was going.
Eventually he made it to the town he's grandparents lived in. He was very surprised at getting a warm welcome.
Hid grandparents were of the more rare sort of Bloodbane, the kind that didn't judge others for their prowess in anything. They were of course sad to hear about the things Samael had to go through, but at the same time weren't surprised.
He also befriended a lot of kids in the town.

One day when he was out in the nearby forest he happened upon a young, wounded Fairy Dog and took it back to his grandparents to nurse it back to health.
The Fairy Dog, named Dovev and Samael quickly became friends, and when it was time for the canine to go back to it's home, it decided to stay as Samael's friend/partner instead.
This bond ended up awakening Samael's dormant fire abilities as well as gave him the ability to learn other elemental magic and he quickly started learning how to master it with the help of his grandparents.
He also almost started a housefire when showing off his new skills to his friends. Thankfully the fire was put out before it started spreading. This also made him realize he should probably be a bit more careful with his abilities for the time being.

Samael continued growing and improving his skills, and when he'd reached 18 he was already a very powerful user of not only fire but also shadow/dark magic as well as learning a few others thanks to Dovev.
He was now fully grown and was ready to start searching for his own place in life. The goodbyes to his grandparents and friends were quite emotional, but he promised to send them letters and maybe visit when he could.
His grandparents were very proud of him, although had a sinking feeling of what he was going to do when he left.
And there was indeed something not exactly moral he was planing on doing.
He had gone over it with Dovev, who didn't seem all that opposed to it when they headed back towards his old hometown.
When they eventually arrived there there was a massive thunderstorm ongoing and Samael had covered himself with a cloak.
He eventually got to his supposed family's house, or rather mansion, and knocked on the door.
Since his family hadn't seen him since he was 10 and weren't aware of everything that had happened when he was away, they didn't recognize him and only saw a powerful magic user with a fabled Fairy Dog along him, asking to be let in from the storm.
They let him in, strongly in hoped of being able to maybe benefit from the strong sorcerer somehow.
However when Samael lowered his hood and revealed himself as their long gone family they only stood in shock, at least until every source of fire in the house, from candles to the fireplace, roared up in a destructive inferno.
Samael had not forgotten everything they had put him through and his grudge had only grown, leading him to taking vigilante revenge with the powers they once abused him for lacking.
The power boost from his vengefulness and Dovev ended up being too much for the family to handle, and once he was sure none of them would survive, or at the very least be unable to ever recover from their burns and wounds, he left the burning mansion.

The entire mansion was quickly covered in flames and the entire town came out to the street, some trying to, in vein, put out the raging fire while others just watched, knowing they wouldn't be able to do anything.
The only person who'd seen Samael enter the mansion was the shop owner's daughter. While the others figured lightning must have struck the mansion, she directly confronted him once he was a little ways away from the others when he was leaving after watching the fire rage on for a while.
She quickly ended up recognizing him as Samael after she caught a glimpse of his eyes.
He said while she may not agree with his actions, it was what he deemed to be right. While she couldn't fully disagree with him, she still didn't agree with his actions.
Samael said he understood and wouldn't hold it against her. He'd hoped to have a better reunion with his childhood friend, but just seeing her again was enough for him. He wished her a good rest-of-her-life before heading off again. She shouted after him that she'd write him sometime and he agreed to send a letter back when she did.

He spent almost 2 years mostly wandering around before finally managing to get a job in the big city and managing save up enough for a home.
This was around the time he first met Nathael and his brother.
